On October 2, Willows Academy students participated in an annual Day of Service. The Day of Service is an opportunity for the Willows faculty, staff, and students to come together to give back to the community and reflect on the meaning of service. This day takes place on October 2 each year – a tradition to honor the feast of the Guardian Angels and the anniversary of the foundation of Opus Dei.
This year, the day began with an all school mass followed by light breakfast and about three hours of service. Students served in different ways based on grade level.
In the middle school, 6th and 7th graders partnered with Uncle Pete’s Ministry and packed 1200 sack dinners for the less fortunate. 8th graders visited the elderly at Amazing Grace Assisted Living and Memory Unit. They spent the morning participating in activities and conversing with the residents.
Meanwhile in the high school, 9th-10th graders helped clean up local streets and parks with Clean Up Give Back. Our juniors visited the elderly at Nazarethville Place Senior Living. Seniors volunteered at Misericordia working in the bakery alongside people with developmental disabilities.
In total, Eagles clocked over 1000 hours of community service! We are grateful to our community partners for these opportunities to make an impact. Our Day of Service is a beloved annual tradition to honor Willows Academy’s spirit of service.
