Fall Athletics Update (Part 2)

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY: (season ended)  The team qualified for the State Meet!

Our Cross country team earned the title of ISL Conference Champions for the 1st time in school’s history! We also had four ISL All-Conference awards: Francoise Lechner ‘23, Lucy James ‘23, Izzy Avila ‘23 & Jane Potter ‘25. Our team was made up of 18 girls (5 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 4 juniors & 4 seniors) and had 3 first place finishes at the 3 Lake Forest Academy invites. At the IHSA Regionals, the team finished in 2nd place and Francoise Lechner took 3rd place for All-Regionals.

At the IHSA Sectionals, the team finished in 5th place and advanced to State!  This is the fourth time a Willows team qualified for the cross country state meet.  Francoise Lechner took 5th place for All-Sectionals. At the IHSA State Meet, the finished in 23rd place! Congratulations Eagles on an amazing season!

MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: (season ended) Middle School volleyball finished strong in the NWCC!

This year, we had over 50 students express interest in middle school volleyball. In response, we created 3 separate teams – 6th grade, 7th grade & 8th grade (a total of 37 students committed to the team). The teams were coached by alumnae Nicole Hortness ‘90 & Maureen Buttkus ‘96 and we joined the NWCC (Northwest Catholic Conference) league. 6th grade finished with 2 wins and 8 losses. The 7th grade team finished with 9 wins and 3 losses and took 2nd place in the NWCC league. The 8th grade team finished with 7 wins and 6 losses and took 2nd place in the NWCC tournament. Thank you everyone who made this season possible!

Our high school volleyball program has 2 teams: JV & Varsity. JV had 14 students and was coached by alumna Rhiannon Cassata ‘19. Our JV team finished with a 5-4 record in the ISL Conference. Our Varsity team had 11 students and was coached by Michelle D’Amico, her 4th season coaching Willows Varsity Volleyball. Varsity finished with a 7-2 record in the ISL Conference including 2 big conference wins over Latin & Regina! Our ISL All-Conference athletes were Eleanor Cassata ‘23 – 1st Team; Mia deGrasse ‘23 – 2nd Team; Emma Lizak ‘24 – Honorable Mention.

In addition, we hosted many home games with unique themes to increase crowd attendance: Pink Out, Pajama Pants Theme, Beach Party & 70’s Disco!

Finally, for the third time in the school’s history, our varsity team was IHSA Regional Champions! Go Eagles!
