About the Speakers

For nearly sixty years, the Sisters of Mary have practiced charity to the poorest of the poor by protecting children break free from a life of poverty. The Sisters of Mary are a religious congregation of over 400 members caring for more than 22,000 children by providing them a safe place to live, healthcare, faith formation, and a strong education. They operate in six countries and have graduated 170,000+ students.

Sister Margie | Dodoma, Tanzania
Sister Margie is currently serving at the Sisters of Mary World Villages for Children Boystown in Dodoma, Tanzania, where she oversees a new school for boys. Originally from South Korea, she joined the Sisters of Mary at the age of 22. She served as the local superior at Girlstown in Chalco, Mexico, for 17 years, a leading both the Sisters and the children. She later took on broader responsibilities across the Sisters of Mary schools in Latin America, including in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, and Honduras, as well as other key roles within the Sisters of Mary.

In her words, “Before entering the Sisters of Mary, I did not know I had something to give. By serving and learning to serve, I feel that I am truly fulfilled.” Sr. Margie’s commitment to service is a powerful reminder of the joy that comes from giving, and her story is a testament to the transformative power of faith, love, and selfless service.

Sister Marilyn | Chalco, Mexico
Sister Marilyn is currently serving at the Sisters of Mary World Villages for Children in Chalco, Mexico, where she helps care for nearly 3,500 young girls. Originally from the Philippines, Sister Marilyn is herself a proud graduate of the Sisters of Mary. She is one of the many children whose lives were transformed by the organization—rescued not only from poverty, but also from the harsh realities of violence. She joined the Sisters of Mary in 2007 and has since served as a Mother Sister and at the Fr. Al Spiritual Center in Chalco.

Through her service, Sister Marilyn brings deep empathy and understanding to the girls in her care. Having walked a similar path, she can relate to their emotional wounds and personal struggles. She has found that most of the children are quick to open their hearts and share their pain when she counsels them, a testament to the trust and connection she fosters.
